Well-being at work
Promoting well-being at work is a co-operative effort. Well-being at work can be defined in different ways, for example: Well-being at work means safe, healthy and productive work, done by skilful and competent employees and work communities in a well-managed organisation. Work is seen as meaningful and important. Work supports other aspects of life.
Well-being at work is experienced by both the individual and the work community and also shows outwardly, for example to customers. The work goes smoothly and there is a balance between competence and how challenging the work is. Well-being at work can also be seen and felt as
- smoothness of daily life and the achievement of goals
- providing and receiving support in everyday work
- good employee experiences
- an attractive work community
- flexibility and the ability to renew.
The structures and practices of the work, the workplace, management and the work community affect well-being at work. While each of us experiences well-being at work individually, it is still important to deal with matters related to it jointly at the workplace. Developing well-being at work together is inspiring and promotes the experience of inclusion. Legislation also directs employers to develop the workplace together with their employees.
Numerous studies and workplace development projects show that developing well-being at work pays off. Meaning, well-being at work and productivity can improve at the same time.
