Occupational Safety Ombudsman
In addition to the occupational safety representative, occupational safety ombudsmen may also be elected to represent the employees in occupational health and safety cooperation matters. The ombudsmen represent a specific limited group of employees, such as a particular department, division or professional group.
Election and duties of the occupational safety ombudsman
The election and role of an occupational safety ombudsman in occupational health and safety cooperation are defined in the unions’ sectoral agreements. The tasks and areas of responsibility of an occupational safety ombudsman are agreed upon locally in the workplace.
An occupational safety ombudsman works in their own area of responsibility as an assistant to the occupational safety representative. The occupational safety ombudsmen are elected at the same time as the representative or by some other agreed upon manner, and their term of office is of the same length as the occupational safety representative’s. Terms of a different length may also be agreed upon.
